Job Description

Primary Objective & Scope of Position:

This position is responsible for providing work direction to back room personnel and training to insure effective and efficient operational activity during working hours and in the Warehouse Manager's absence. Ensure that sales and merchandising activities are productive, safe and efficient to advance sales and present a positive, professional image.

Essential Functions and Accountabilities:

Work direction

  • Provide work direction to back room employees on responsibilities and duties. Lead by example through training and assistance. Perform all functions performed by Merchandise Handlers in a cooperative and professional manner. Provide employee performance and behavior feedback to manager in an honest, timely, and thorough manner. Not responsible for hiring, termination, pay, corrective action or performance reviews.

Merchandising

  • Research and resolve operational issues regarding customer pick up, delivery, service, floor display merchandise etc. Facilitate truck check-in of incoming merchandise and provide information to manager. Preform all aspects of receiving incoming and outgoing merchandise. Use Point of Sale System (POS) to manage merchandise flow.

Administrative

  • Maintain a working knowledge of POS computer system to delivery, service, customer pickup and inventory to accurately reflect activity in the computer in a timely and effective manner. May perform regularly scheduled inventory cycles. Research and resolve inventory, delivery routing and merchandise problems. Assist sales staff with operational questions and resolving problems.

Training

  • Provide ongoing formal/informal coaching/training to back room employees on operational processes, merchandising, love, dignity & respect expectations, safety, teambuilding, interpersonal skills to encourage growth of individuals. May include partnering with other areas of the organization for more formal training. Determining who, what, when, where, why and how training should be accomplished.

Customer Service

  • Communicate with customers regarding pick up, delivery and service requests to resolve merchandise issues in a professional, honest, timely, and accurate manner. May be required to drive the delivery truck when drivers are not available or as needed.

Safety:

  • Adheres to safety policies and practices and consistently models safe behaviors and risk reduction procedures.
  • Properly handle, operate and maintain equipment to avoid personnel injury. Follow training guidelines and manufacturers specifications while preventing damage to equipment or merchandise. Maintain a clean, safe, organized facility inside and out. Consistently abide by company rules and expectations.

Other:

  • Perform work as direct by manager in a variety of other functions as needed. May include working a different schedule or in a different location. Snow shoveling, sign set-up, order/replace/adjust lighting. Participate 5S and other lean initiatives. Participate in meetings..

High School diploma or GED; post secondary education preferred. Experience in a warehouse or back room environment, with knowledge and practice in movement of merchandise and a safe work environment. Must have experience in leading by example and providing positive and constructive feedback. Valid driver's license.
