Job Profile Summary 

​This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Ultrasound duties: Utilizes Ultrasound Technology to provide images of internal body structures. A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs. An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation. 

I. GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasound procedures to obtain and record interpretable diagnostic information for the medical staff.

II. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

¨ Ability to accurately perform Level II obstetrical ultrasound exams in a timely manner, including multiple gestations.

¨ Provide ultrasound guidance for invasive procedures such as amniocentesis, Chorionic Villis Sampling (CVS), Percutaneous Umbilical Blood Sampling (PUBS), Fetal Transfusions, Fetal Shunt placement.

¨ Perform First Trimester Nuchal Translucency scans

¨ Obtains all clinical information available through charts, films, lab tests, etc. prior to exams. Informs clinics, physicians and floors of interpretation for exams and provides results on request.

¨ Teaches residents, students, medical staff and visitors the science, capabilities, and proper use of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool.

¨ Schedules and receives patients for exams.

¨ Checks and maintains supplies as necessary.

¨ Maintains sterilization of equipment using appropriate cleaning procedures involved with specialized equipment.

¨ Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment

¨ Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

III. JOB REQUIREMENTS:

A. JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

¨ Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.

B. EDUCATION:

¨ Level of knowledge generally obtained through successful completion of a one or two year accredited Ultrasound program.

C. EXPERIENCE:

¨ Minimum one-year clinical experience in medical ultrasonography.

An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

D. LICENSES, ETC.:

¨ ARDMS registered in OB/GYN or registry eligible

¨ Nuchal Translucency certification preferred

¨ CPR Certification. 

IV. AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. This includes:

· Knowledge of growth and development

· Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care

· Provide age specific communication

V. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

¨ Close contact with patients having contagious diseases.

¨ Position requires moving heavy equipment and patients.

¨ Ability to stand or sit in one position for long periods of time with some moving of heavy equipment and patients.

¨ Works in sterile fields when performing invasive procedures.

¨ Frequent contacts with patients, physicians, patients’ families, and other personnel throughout the hospital.
