Overview Protective Services Officer - Main Campus and Offsites at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Shifts available: Full time, Benefits Eligible, Weekends Required. Various shifts depending on Main Campus and Offsite urgent care and clinical needs. Location: Multiple locations Job Description Summary Patrols, monitors, and secures assigned areas, patients, visitors, and employees to ensure safety and security. Essential Functions Performs random and frequent patrols as assigned in designated area on foot, motor vehicle, or bicycle, and monitors security cameras. Intervenes in interpersonal conflict or criminal acts safely and effectively to maintain order, providing appropriate detention, restraint, or removal from premises. Conducts preliminary investigations and reports criminal, safety, and security incidents. Maintains accurate documentation of daily activities and incidents. Responds to and provides assistance in emergency situations and internal disaster incidents. Performs staff and visitor escorts or transportation, vehicle assistance, and “lock/unlock” activities. Enforces hospital parking policies and procedures. Responds safely, effectively, and efficiently to all related matters that come to their attention and in the performance of activities as assigned. Education High School diploma, required. Licensure Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy and position-specific requirements. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines. Skills Ability to read and comprehend hospital/departmental policies and procedures, criminal statutes, and regulatory publications. Ability to successfully conduct preliminary investigations and document findings on standard departmental or hospital forms. Sufficient interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all persons, regardless of position, ethnicity, sex, age, or economic status. Sufficient interpersonal skills to consistently and equitably enforce the policies of the department and hospital and the ability to effectively intervene in interpersonal conflict. Ability to write legibly. Experience On hire, the Officer will undergo a 4 to 6 week training cycle on the floor and in a classroom setting, under the supervision of a Senior Officer, working multiple shifts and locations for familiarization and experience and learning physical intervention and verbal techniques. The Officer will be required to complete the IAHSS Basic Security Officer training within the first six months of being hired at the officer’s expense. Once completed, the Security Department will reimburse the cost of the test. Physical Requirements Occasionally: bend/twist, lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs, climbing stairs/ladder, temperature extremes, handling bodily fluids and pathogens, reaching, kneeling, working at heights. Frequently: computer use, depth perception, driving motor vehicles, repetitive hand/arm use, sitting, standing. Continuously: audible speech, color vision, hearing, problem solving, data interpretation, peripheral vision, decision making, walking.
