We are seeking a part-time Digital Photography Instructor with a broad range of experience in digital photography as demonstrated in a portfolio of work. The ideal candidate should be skilled in basic photography concepts, have a working knowledge of digital camera usage, studio set up and lighting, knowledge of image editing using Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom, and should have some teaching experience. We are looking for someone who is a team player, steward of a productive studio, and motivated to be part of a creative community.

Job Summary :

The Indianapolis Art Center promotes life-long learning through hands-on art classes and activities. These programs serve a wide variety of ages, audiences and skill levels of students. An Instructor teaches various educational programs offered by the Art Center, on- and/or off-site from the Art Center. Instructors promote and nurture the education of students by planning and tailoring courses of study; providing a safe, supportive, and positive environment conducive to learning; and keeping students informed about various Art Center efforts and other opportunities. Instructors must be friendly and enthusiastic ambassadors of the Indianapolis Art Center’s mission and provide exemplary customer service to our students and patrons.

Essential Job Functions:

• Develop and present lesson plans by using a variety of techniques, including lectures, projects, exhibits, etc.
• Ensure that adequate materials, supplies, tools and equipment are available to encourage student’s full participation in class room activities.
• Tailor course of study by developing modifications for various levels of ability and prior experience.
• Maintain safe, secure and healthy educational environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures.
• Monitor individual students’ performance and provide coaching, advice and direction to maximize their performance.
• Educate students by planning and developing course of study according to curriculum guidelines utilizing methods such as Discipline Based Art Education (DBAE).
• Clean and store all materials and equipment at the end of each class session.
• Report to program staff as requested (syllabus and/or lesson plans, materials list, narrative outcomes of each class session, student attendance, demographic data, evaluations, etc.) and ensure that all necessary reports, records and documents are accurately completed and submitted on time.

Additional Job Functions:

• Assume an active role in the promotion of classes taught, utilizing a variety of existing and new channels.
• Attend meetings and trainings as determined by program staff.
• For off-site programs, maintain positive interactions and relationships with partner site staff, acting as a representative of the Indianapolis Art Center.
• Prepare artwork for exhibition as necessary.
• Opportunities may become available for Outreach and/or Youth & Teen programming. Additional requirements may apply.

Competency Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

• Classroom/behavior management experience
• Possesses the proficiency (either through education and/or experience) to engage students of all abilities and teach concepts for specific courses taught.
• CPR certification (as required for all Outreach, youth and art camp instructors).

Education and Experience:

• A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in art, art education or a related field plus two years of experience in the field of education.
• Experience working with diverse and underserved audiences desired; required for Outreach, youth and art camp instructors.
• Art experience such as exhibitions, commissions or professional work. A personal art portfolio may be requested.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Instructors are required to travel to and from the Art Center campus and/or various locations in the city.
• Occasionally required to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
• Perform physical tasks related to the medium being taught.
