Position Overview

The Health and Safety Intern/Assistant will assist the Safety team in ensuring the safe and compliant operation of TS Conductor. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in workplace safety, environmental health regulations, risk assessment, and accident prevention. The intern will collaborate with safety professionals to assist in maintaining a safe and productive work environment for all employees.

Essential Functions

Assist with Safety Audits & Inspections:

  • Support the team in conducting routine safety inspections across the workplace or facility.
  • Identify potential safety hazards, unsafe work practices, and environmental risks.
  • Help ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory safety standards.

Incident Reporting & Investigation:

  • Assist in documenting accidents, near misses, and safety incidents.
  • Help with root cause analysis to identify areas for improvement.
  • Track incident trends and help prepare reports for senior safety staff

Safety Training Support:

  • Assist in organizing and delivering safety training programs for employees.
  • Help with developing materials and resources for training sessions.
  • Observe and participate in safety drills (e.g., fire, evacuation, emergency response).

Safety Policy & Procedure Documentation:

  • Aid in reviewing and updating safety protocols, manuals, and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure documentation is kept current, organized, and accessible to staff.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Assist in maintaining records and documentation necessary for regulatory compliance (e.g., OSHA reports, environmental safety records).
  • Help track compliance deadlines and support the completion of required safety certifications.

Assist with Risk Assessments:

  • Participate in job hazard analysis (JHA) and risk assessments.
  • Assist in developing action plans to mitigate identified risks

General Safety Support:

  • Help with the coordination of safety equipment and supplies (e.g., personal protective equipment, fire extinguishers).
  • Assist with safety campaigns and employee engagement activities promoting safety awareness.
  • Provide administrative support to the safety team (e.g., filing, data entry).

Other Skills/Abilities

  • Safety Knowledge: A basic understanding of workplace safety regulations and risk management principles.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and staff, ensuring clarity in safety instructions and reports.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to assess safety issues and propose practical solutions.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to spot and address potential safety hazards quickly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Prior experience OSHA standards is a plus
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate material handling equipment

Training and Experience

  • Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word/Excel)
  • Forklift certification is a plus

Work Environment

Manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise and varying temperatures. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
