Position Summary
The GIS Specialist is responsible for acquiring data sets from various sources to create and maintain geodatabases specific to client requirements. The Specialist will design strategies for enterprise database systems and set standards for operations, programming, and security. They will design and construct large relational databases. The products that will be utilized to do this will be a collection of ESRI products (ArcGIS ArcPro, ArcMap and all AGOL (ArcGIS OnLine) applications), Golden Software, Lizard Tech, Blue Marble Geographics, Pix4d and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) software, or other client-specified software to create and update GIS Geo-datasets. This person will be responsible for ensuring that the most current data is readily available to staff and clients on demand. They will assist engineers and scientists to effectively utilize this data to rapidly produce high quality map products, visual representations, data summaries, and/or data repositories.
The Specialist works with independent survey teams, engineers, and scientists to import data into GIS, AutoCAD, or other software formats. Quality Assurance Duties includes the ability to review existing or incoming data for consistency, accuracy, usefulness, quality, and/or completeness of metadata documentation and managing data storage.
Other duties will include the coordination of changes to computer databases, test and implement the database by applying knowledge of database management systems. This individual will be asked to research and develop geospatial technologies, which will include producing databases, perform application programming, or coordinate projects. Must have a valid driver license.

Education: Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school or equivalent relevant experience) Required, Field of Study: Cartography, Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Mathematics, or directly related field Experience: 3-10 years of relevant work experience required.
Computer Skills: Must be proficient in using ESRI products, Global Positioning Systems software. Working knowledge of other geospatial programs such as Strater, Pix4d, Global Mapper, GeoExpress and a basic knowledge of programing languages is a plus., Must also be familiar with using Access and Excel, as well as other MS Office Programs.
Must be proficient utilizing ArcPro, ArcMap, Strater, GeoExpress, GlobalMapper, Goolge Earth (software) to develop maps/figures based on GIS data sources, i.e., shapefiles, raster data, CAD data, spreadsheets or access databases (Data sources).
Other Requirements: This position requires an extensive knowledge of the principals and concepts of geography, cartography, computer mapping, database development, and techniques used in spatial analysis that involve geodatabase files and proximity analysis. Familiarity with various map projections and coordinate systems that relate to spatial analysis and the ability to translate historic geographic data into ArcGIS geodata format is required. Skilled application with ArcGIS Pro 3.1, ArcGIS ArcMap 10.8, and AGOL and database platforms is required, must be proficient with Microsoft Access and Excel and the programming language Visual Basic. The ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team when solving complex, technical problems is vital.
Work Environment: Position requires the ability to sit for a long period of time while using a computer. The work will be conducted within an office environment but there may be a slight possibility of going out into the field.
